Margaret E. Farmer

November 19, 1937 — November 8, 2017

Margaret Eileen Stephenson Farmer was born on November 19, 1937, in Beverley, East Yorkshire, England. Her mother was Enid Wellbourn Stephenson and her father was Charles Stephenson. She had a sister, June Rose, and three brothers, Jim, Ken, and Charles Stephenson.
She is survived by her children, Joanne Mauro, Steven Farmer, and Andrew and Sonya Farmer. She has 5 grandchildren, Allyson Mauro, Catheryn Mauro, Wayne Farmer, Patrick Mauro, and Chelsey Banks. She has 2 great-grandchildren Titus Farmer and Charlie Rae Banks.
Her dad was a stonemason and her mother was a homemaker. At a very early age, her family was devastated by her mother's death and the beginning of WW11. Her father had to contribute to the war effort and the children were sent inland away from the coast and away from each other. They kept in touch as best they could, but after marrying and moving to America in 1957, Margaret lost track of her siblings. One of the highlights of her life was reuniting with all of them 40+ years later in Scotland, in December 2001.
Margaret moved to Commerce in 1972. She worked at the Holiday Inn, Baker and Taylor, and the Chateau Elan for the next 38 years.
Margaret was instrumental in establishing the Catholic Mission in Commerce in the late 70's, early 80's. This former Mission is now the St. Catherine Labouré Catholic Church, the only Catholic church in Jackson County.
Margaret will be remembered for her devotion to Our Blessed Mother, for her willingness to help anyone who came to her in need, and for her sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday November 15, 2017 at St. Catherine Laboure' Catholic Church in Jefferson. Burial will follow in Grey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday November 14, 2017 at the funeral home.
