Dorothy Jean Wilson Mize left this life on June 11, 2024 after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 21,1931 in Louisville, KY, she led a long and fulfilling life as an Army wife living in multiple states and overseas. She spent many years as a working mother, church and community volunteer, and elected official. Perhaps some of her most fulfilling days were spent later in life as a grandmother. Being born in the depression helped shape her into a hardworking, mostly frugal, but very generous and well-respected friend to many. No stranger to change, she was always willing to do whatever she felt necessary to help those close to her. She was an excellent cook, an avid reader and enjoyed crafting and bingo. She worked for over thirty years in the telephone industry, was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Lula, GA, and served on the Banks County Board of Education, the 2nd Division National Auxiliary and many other civic groups.
She was preceded in death by her best friend and the love of her life Edward after sixty-seven years of marriage.
She is survived by her children Paul, Sharon, and Neil; daughter-in-law Linda; grandson Matthew and granddaughter Megan along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at Mt. Carmel Church Baptist Church Cemetery on June 20th at 10:00 AM. Rev. James Duncan officiating.
In lieu of flowers or cards, please consider making a donation to her favorite charity Wounded Warrior Project at support.woundedwarriorproject.org or by calling 855-448-3997.
