Ivie Funeral Home announces services for Elmer Gerald Fields, Sr., 69, of 157 Woodrow Lane, Lavonia, who passed away on January 5, 2011 of a pre-existing heart condition. He was born and raised in Madison Conty, GA and graduated in the class of 1959. He was preceded in death by his father, Cleo Fields, stepfather, O.J. Haggard, son, Elmer Gerald Fields, Jr. and grandchild, Samantha Bone. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sharon Kittle Fields, their children whom he was so proud of, Patricia (Mark) Parham and Melanie (Joey) Bone, both of Comer and Brian (Kelly) Fields of Arkansas, six grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Shelley and Maranda Parham and Kristina and Katherine Bone of Comer and Gabriella and Abigail Fields of Arkansas. He is also survived by his mother, Thelma Haggard Draper and brother, Dwayne Fields of Danielsville, nephews, Greg, David and Wade Fields, brother-in-law, Charles Wier, and sister-in-law, Martha Sargeant of Commerce. Elmer worked at Oxford Sportswear in Commerce for many years and retired as owner from Fields Auto Parts in Comer after having begun the business in 1981 which, after 29 years, still operates today.
Funeral services for Elmer Gerald Fields, Sr. will be conducted on Saturday at 2 PM from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Sarna and Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the Grey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 PM and at other times at the home of his daughter Melanie located at 785 Holly Creek Church Rd., Comer.
