Ira Lucinda Hendricks Coalson

Mrs. Ira Lucinda Coalson, age 81 of Commerce, GA passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Athens Piedmont Hospital under the loving care of Compassus Hospice. She was the second child of Emory Wesley Hendricks and Vonnie Ruth Brown Hendricks and was born in Polk County (Cedartown, Georgia) on August 16, 1941. An older brother, Emory Thomas Hendricks died March 15, 1959, in the army in Hawaii. She attended David Lipscomb College and was student assistant to Batsell Barrett Baxter. Lucinda married Johnny Coalson in 1961, spending sixty years together. Lucinda was a kindergarten teacher for Little Dears (Greater Atlanta Christian School). She was recognized as Volunteer of the Year at Parkway Regional Hospital. Lucinda was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, teaching children’s and ladies' Bible classes throughout the years. She lastly attended Harmony Grove Church of Christ after moving to Commerce.
Survivors include: sons Jeffrey Coalson (Clyda Lee Ray), Timothy Coalson (Sonya Wright), and daughter Johna Coalson Oldfield (James Oldfield), along with seven grandchildren: Kara, Emory, and Austin Coalson; Tina Woods and Caleb Coalson; Jayla Nelson and Jenay Oldfield
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Ivie Funeral Home with Tommy Tidwell, minister of the South Cobb Church of Christ (Mableton, Georgia) officiating. Burial will follow in Grey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 am until the funeral hour at the funeral home.
