Nancy Janet Harber Hicks passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Janet was born on June 29, 1926, near Commerce, Georgia to James Jasper and Drucilla McCoy Harber. She attended schools in Commerce and graduated from North Georgia College in Dahlonega, GA. Afterwards, Janet moved to Atlanta and had a career in radiologic technology. While there, she met John Crawford Hicks of Decatur, GA and they were married on October 4, 1952.
Janet and Crawford had two children, James Jeffrey Hicks (Jane Sutton) of Atlanta, GA and Nancy Rebecca Hicks Broyles (William H., II) of Shreveport.
Affectionately known as Teenie by her family, she will always be remembered for her never ending willingness to play on the floor with her grandchildren and for her delightful, sometimes uncontrollable laughter. An avid "rocker," Teenie undoubtedly put a million miles on her chair with a grandchild in her lap. Each of her grandchildren was "the cutest little thing that ever was." They are Jane Kennedy Hicks, Nancy Crawford Hicks, Mary Boyce Hicks Diehl (John), Frances Patton Hicks, William H. Broyles, III (Chelsey), James Crawford Broyles (Ila), Rebecca Alice Broyles and Virginia Broyles Lamb (Rich). Great grandchildren are Hilton, Clyde, Nell and Ollie.
In September of 1967, the family relocated to Shreveport. Though a proud Georgian at heart, Janet treasured her nearly fifty years of commitment to the First Presbyterian Church, where she established numerous lifelong friendships. She also enjoyed her Monday afternoon bridge club, Bible Study Fellowship, her garden and book clubs and delivering Meals on Wheels for a number of years.
Janet had many friends whom she loved. Her last years were spent at the Oaks community where her spirit endeared her to the staff and other residents.
In addition to her husband, children, grand and great grandchildren, Teenie is survived by her cherished sisters, Rebecca Harber Dixon, Mary Edna Harber Harrison and Alice Harber Linton; her brother, William Neal Harber and wife, Emily Hope Harber; and sister-in-law, Mildred Wilbanks Harber; along with her cherished nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Roberta Harber Bolton, George McCoy Harber and James Jasper Harber, Jr.; and in-laws, LeRoy Asbury Dixon, W.D. Bolton, Malcolm Reeves Harrison, Elaine Yankee Harber, Arthur Gene Linton and Kitty Winters Hookins.
Her family is thankful for and grateful to Natasha Simmons Murff for the loving care that she has provided for over three years. Natasha coordinated a special team of devoted caregivers who kept Teenie safe and comfortable throughout her illness. These dear ladies are Aseline Davis, Lauvata Drew, Charmaine Dusesoi, Rosalind Garner, Ronesha Murff, Roberta Taylor and Rose Young. Thanks also to Kay Simmons, Juanita Frederick, Mary Ann McCoy and Rachel Williams for their many years of faithful assistance.
Teenie now enjoys the assurance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and her family is grateful for what lies ahead for her and all who trust in Him.
