Joan Elaine Kilburn, born on November 5, 1954, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, departed this world on February 18, 2025, in Athens, Georgia. A beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Joan lived her life with unwavering faith and dedication, particularly evident in her work with Primerica Life, where she made a meaningful impact throughout her career.
Joan was a proud member of the Baptist faith, which guided her values and character. She held her family close, serving as a beacon of strength and love. Joan is remembered as a devoted mother to her daughters, Amber (Jason) Smith and Rachel Buchan, who cherished her deeply. She took great joy in her role as a grandmother to Dylan and R.J. Buchan, nurturing and inspiring them with her wisdom and kindness.
In addition to her immediate family, Joan is survived by her mother, Sarah Sanders Bennett Norton, and step-father, Seaborn Norton. Her sister, Lori Ann Gower (Lamar) Watkins, provided companionship throughout her life, offering support and love. Joan also leaves behind her nephew, Brian Gower, who will carry on her legacy of compassion and caring.
Joan was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Bennett, who played a critical role in shaping her early years; her son, Jacob Sikes, whose memory will forever hold a cherished place in her heart; and her nephew, Guy Leon Gower.
Joan Elaine Kilburn’s life was characterized by the richness of relationships and a deep commitment to those she loved. Her warmth and spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we reflect on her life, we celebrate the love she shared and the lives she touched.
A visitation will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 2-5 PM at the residence of Lori Ann Watkins, 291 Jim’s Lane, Nicholson, GA 30565.
