Kenneth M. Webb

Kenneth (Ken) M. Webb, 59, died July 12, 2011 at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was the only son of the late Woodson K. and Ola Merck Webb of Maysville, GA. His late grandparents were Paul and Wilda Wood Webb of Maysville, GA and Paul and Essie Moore Merck of Homer, GA. He graduated from Commerce High School, Commerce, GA in 1970 and attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, Tifton, GA and the University of Georgia Athens, GA. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971. While stationed at Hickam AFB, HI, he was awarded Airman of the Quarter. He stated one time that one of his proudest moments was being at Hickam AFB and having the opportunity to see the first POWs from Vietnam walk off the plane. Prior to his first enlistment ending, he was selected by the Air Force to attend Auburn University to pursue studies for an industrial engineering degree. Upon graduation from Auburn University, Auburn, AL, he was commissioned in the Air Force. After attaining the rank of Captain, Ken was medically retired from the Air Force. During his military career he was awarded the AF Longevity Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. He resided in Wichita, KS for over 20 years. An avid golfer, he was well known at several of the Wichita-area golf courses, having made many friends while golfing. He started his day off by going to Don's Restaurant and having breakfast and coffee with the regulars. He is survived by his sisters Janis Berryman, Kent, WA; Paulette Webb, Colbert, GA; and Jurelle Cobb (Ken), Colbert, GA. In addition, he is survived by his guardian Andrea Ramsey, Wichita, KS, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful feline companions, Tab Hunter and Bart, both of whom were rescues. Ken cherished his many friends and loved ones, as well as the numerous waitresses who kept his coffee cup and water glass filled without complaint. And also, the many others over the years who assisted and cared for him. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 3 PM from the Ivie Funeral Home Chapel in Commerce with the Rev. T. Gary Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 PM until the time of service.
