Leila Ritchie Campbell, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior December 19, 2023 at Peak Resources Gastonia while in hospice care. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Col. Frank Telford and Sally Jo Bird Ritchie, Jr. and was preceded in death by sisters JoNan Ritchie Tanner and Dorothy Ritchie Armor.
Leila was raised in Montgomery and Athens, Georgia, was a 1956 graduate of Athens High School and a 1961 graduate of The University of Georgia, where she was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Science Education and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. A former member of the Charlotte Gem and Mineral Club and an accomplished painter in several mediums, including tole and decorative, acrylic, oil and watercolor, Leila taught art to many in the Charlotte area over several decades. She was a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, NC.
Survivors include her daughter, Laura Campbell Fuller of Belmont, NC; son, Eddie Frank Campbell of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren George Edward Lemond of Rock Hill, SC; Laura Grace Kaufman (Konrad) of Roanoke, VA; Mary Quinn Lemond of Winston, GA; great-grandchildren Konrad Vincent Kaufman, Jr. and Kenna Virginia Grace Kaufman of Roanoke, VA; cousin, Dr. Thomas A. Ritchie of Scottsdale, AZ; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Campbell will be buried in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce, GA in a private ceremony on February 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to VIA Health Partners (Formerly Hospice and Palliative Care) PO Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247
