She met Martin Joseph Sherry, the love of her life, while he was stationed at Fort Mac. They married in 1944 - 10 months after they met; They were married 65 years before Martin passed away in 2009.
Besides being a devoted mother and wife, Leoda was an accomplished archivist; she worked many years at Georgia Archives for the State of Georgia. She was a founding member of the Georgia Genealogical Society and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She often taught classes in genealogical research. Additionally, when retired, she and her husband traveled the world far and wide to research the family and shared wonderful adventures together.
We will forever miss her wit, her beauty, her exceptional intellect, poise, kindness to all, and quiet demeanor. She was the epitome of a true southern lady. We treasure every moment we had with her, but find the time much too short. We miss her terribly already and will love her for always.
