Loyce Henley O'Neill
July 3, 1924 - March 17, 2017
Loyce Henley O'Neill, age 92 of Athens, Georgia, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, March 17, at the home of her son Donald O'Neill and his wife Darla.
Born in Palatka, Florida, Mrs. O'Neill was the daughter of the late James Henley and Mary Edna Tedder Henley Combs of Lake City, Florida.
Mrs. O'Neill was of the Christian faith and attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. She retired from Tampa General Hospital and previously worked at General Telephone and Hillsborough County Sherriff's Department, both in Tampa. Prior to World War II, she worked for the Navy at the Naval Air Station in Lake City, Florida. After retirement, she stayed active caregiving for her grandchildren and her husband, helping friends and neighbors, and supporting mission work around the world.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, William W. O'Neill; a daughter, Mary Jane O'Neill, Virginia Beach, Virginia; a brother, James Henley, Seabrook, Texas; and a sister, Floreid Clayton, Lake City, Florida.
Survivors in addition to son Donald (Darla) O'Neill include daughters Eda (Andy) Randazzo, Wesley Chapel, Florida, and Karen (Kevin) Dennis, Oak Creek, Colorado; a sister, Dorothy Gibbs, Lake City, Florida, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private memorial will be scheduled in the future for placing her cremains with her husband's at a cherished spot in Claiborne County, Tennessee, where they lived for many of their later years.
