Michael David Matthews

Michael David Matthews, 54, passed away on Saturday, September 7 surrounded by his family. He spent his final days with family and special friends who reminded him of what a special person he was. Mike was the son of Buckley and Claudia Matthews, Commerce. He enjoyed listening to country music - particularly Bill Anderson, and watching golf and Walker, Texas Ranger. Mike loved to laugh and he loved people. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce, a worship home he loved to visit to hear God's word and music. His father, Buckley Matthews and his brother, Daniel Matthews, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving mother, Claudia Matthews; sister and caretaker, Lucille Wilson; brother Buckie Matthews and wife Sharon; brother Tom Matthews and wife Jane; sister-in-law, Donna Matthews; sister-in-law, Dianne Matthews; and special friends, Nancy Smallwood, Hazel Benton and Evelyn Christian; his loving nieces and nephews and his great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 8 from 2-5 PM at Ivie Funeral Home in Commerce. The family will receive friends at the residence located at 108 Heritage Court in Commerce on Monday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 10 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Commerce with the Reverend David Harbin and the Reverend Carlton Allen officiating. Interment will be in Grey Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 1:30 PM until the time of service.
