Sarah Elizabeth Adams Martin, born on March 9, 1938, in Monticello, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, in Gainesville, Georgia. She was a respected member of her community and dedicated her professional life to public service, retiring from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Sarah was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, sewing, quilting, and gardening. 

Throughout her life, Sarah nurtured close relationships with family and friends, including those from her previous marriages to Dickerson Hawkins, the father of their children, and Arnold Martin. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Melinda Cheryl Hawkins, and son, John (Karen) Hawkins. Sarah's legacy is further cherished by her six grandchildren, Chris Hawkins, Kevin (Snow) Hawkins, Ashley (Kurtis) Robinson, Amy Schutt, Abigail (Johnny) Chesnut, and Russell (Ivy) Chesnut, who benefited from her warmth and wisdom.

She shared deep bonds with her sisters, Jeannie (David) Dempsey, Sara Ann Turner, Pearly Mae (Dave) Score, Lucy Ogden (Floyd), and Ruby Watson, as well as her brothers, JC (Rosie) Adams and Johnny Adams. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her brother-in-law, Carlton Sears.

Sarah joins her departed loved ones in eternal rest, including her parents, Garnett and Bessie Mathis Adams; her son, Jeffery Hawkins; and her sisters, Minnie Lee Sorrow, Eider Bell Sears, Willie Mae Farmer, and Patricia Scarbrough; along with her half-brother, William Adams. 

Visitation will be held at Ivie Funeral Home in Commerce, Georgia, on January 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on January 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM, also at Ivie Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hawkins Family Cemetery at Timber Ridge Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA, The family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating Sarah's remarkable life and the enduring love she shared with those around her.
