Sarah Haggard Sartain

Local Philanthropist passes at 77:
Sarah Haggard Sartain, lifetime resident of Ila, Georgia was released from this earth on Saturday, May 7, 2011. She lost her battle with Breast Cancer at home surrounded by her four children, daughter-in-law and two of her grandchildren.
Sarah was born in Madison County, GA and was the only child of Bertice and W.R. Haggard. She attended Ila School where she met her friend Lucy Phillips. Their friendship started when Sarah asked her to take her side in a schoolyard dispute and lasted a lifetime. Sarah was married to Samuel Sartain of Danielsville for almost 50 years. He told her how beautiful she was every day that he lived and she never got tired of hearing it.
Her rental business was most often a mission, helping homeless people find a place to live or a single mother to find housing. She fed the hungry and clothed the sick. Her daily routine was buying things for other people. She had properties in all the surrounding counties. She was independent and active until a few months ago, putting hundreds of miles each week on her automobile.
She once faced down a mother Rottweiler who attacked her and helped bring to justice a man who had kidnapped and robbed her. We think Chuck Norris wears Sarah Sartain Pajamas.
Sarah is survived by her four children and their spouses: Brenda and Mehdi Zareie, Barbara and Robert Fogg, Bill and Lynne Sartain, Barry and Angie Sartain. She was blessed to have 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Sarah was preceded in death by both parents and her husband.
The family invites all to attend the visitation on Tuesday, May 10th from 6 PM until 9 PM at the Ivie Funeral Home, Madison County Chapel, located at 42 Booger Hill Rd. in Danielsville, GA. The service will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 11th in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Madison County Chapel. Burial will follow at the Ila Community Cemetery located behind the Presbyterian Church in Ila. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
