Thelma M. Carlan

Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, announces services for Thelma M. Westmoreland Carlan, 83, of Commerce, who passed away on Monday at the Hill Haven Nursing Home. Born in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late A.G. and Ora Sue Freeman Westmoreland and was the widow of James Carlan. Aside from her husband and her "mother and daddy", she was preceded in death by a son, Clay Carlan and siblings, Hoyt, C.W., Pete, Bobby, Buddy,and Troy Westmoreland ,Vivian Segars, Audrey Cochran, Mildred Dixon and Jessie Lou Westmoreland. Survivors include her sons, Mike Carlan of Gastonia, NC, Dennis Carlan and Jason Carlan, both of Commerce and Nelson (Faye) Goolsby of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Ben (Caroline) Westmoreland of Alabama as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 11 AM from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with Rev. James Dumas officiating. Interment will follow in the Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Mrs. Carlan's name be sent to Hill Haven Nursing Home in Commerce.
