Rev. James Paul Vickery of Madison Street, Commerce, GA passed away Sunday April 24, 2016 at the age of 72 from an extended illness.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Lord Vickery, 4 children, Mike Vickery, Tonya Freeman, Chris Vickery, and Ann Daves; and 11 grandchildren.
Rev. Vickery served 11 churches during his ministry and was a retired state employee from the Georgia State Department of Revenue. He was a 1961 graduate of Commerce High School as well as a 1968 graduate of University of Georgia with a degree in Business Administration. Rev. Vickery attended Mercer University in Macon, GA with a degree in Christian Education and Pastoral Ministries from 1973-1974, then attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary from 1981-1984.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday April 27, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church, Nicholson, GA with the Rev. Mike Stowers, Rev. Donald Wilson and Rev. Billy Owensby officiating. Burial will follow in Grey Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday April 26, 2016 from 5 pm - 9 pm at the funeral home.
