Jeanne Lee Dell Taylor

December 27, 1926 — January 5, 2014

Jeanne Lee Dell Taylor, 87, died peacefully on January 5, 2014 in Colbert, GA from the effects of advancing Alzheimer's Disease. She was deeply devoted to her country, her family, her husband of 61 years, David Walker Taylor, and their three sons, as well as her many friends.

Jeanne was born December 27, 1926 at the Naval Hospital in San Diego to Captain Thomas Mediary Dell, Jr. of Baltimore and Bertie Lee Truitt Purnell Dell of Snow Hill, MD. Raised as a Navy "brat," she moved where her father's orders led until WWII. Her favorite places included: Honolulu, where she attended the Punahou School and learned the hula-a dance she loved and continued teaching until her death, Annapolis for its many Midshipmen, and later the Main Line of Philadelphia, PA, where she met her future husband in the late 1940's.

Jeanne graduated from Oldfields School in Glencoe, MD in 1944. A lifelong athlete, she was a member of the Varsity Basketball and Hockey Teams, the Varsity Club, the Riding Team and was chorus member and Maypole dancer.

She and David spent most of their married lives in Chester County, PA moving to the warmth of Vero Beach, FL in 2005 and subsequently to Athens, GA in 2007. Although shy, Jeanne was always finding ways to help people-such as the troubled young girls at Sleighton Farms School in Glen Mills, PA-with her genuine caring, infectious optimism, mischievous sense of humor, and strong common sense.

Jeanne was a past member of Merion Cricket Club, where she played on the women's tennis team and served as President of the Main Line Antique Club. She loved animals, raised many Labrador puppies, and among her many charitable activities was a founder of the Chester County SPCA Benefit Horse Show.

Preceded in death by her husband, Jeanne is survived by her three sons: Peter Randolph, of Athens, GA, Alexander Harrison of Exton, Pa., and Carter Sears Dell, of Vero Beach, FL., their wives, five grandchildren, and her brother, Thomas M. Dell, III of Long Beach, CA.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Oldfields School, SPCA, or the Alzheimer's Foundation. Memorial Services will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, Bryn Mawr, PA at a later date.
